Paul R. McCarthy, Clarence's longtime zoning enforcement officer, was elected supervisor, defeating Republican candidate Arlington A. "Bud" Smith Jr., 4,047 to 3,135, according to complete but unofficial returns.
McCarthy, who had the Democratic, Conservative and Independent endorsements, replaces current Supervisor Anne L. Case, who decided to step down from that post to run for the Town Board.
Mrs. Case won a seat on the board, a position she held before becoming supervisor, with 4,204 votes, according to unofficial results. Daniel A. Herberger recaptured his Town Board seat with 3,881 votes.
