Sherry L. Byrnes, an account executive at the Buffalo Alliance for Education, announced her candidacy for the Buffalo Board of Education Wednesday.
Ms. Byrnes will run for the North District seat being vacated by President Donald A. Van Every. She is co-chairwoman of United Parents, a citywide parents organization working for quality education.
She also is co-chairwoman of the Public Education Task Force of First Presbyterian Church and helped to pioneer the first school-church partnership in the state's Adopt-a-School program. She is a youth adviser to seniors from several city high schools. The mother of an Olmsted School student, she holds a master of arts degree from the University at Buffalo.
