State police had to intervene when tension between the reunited Styx rock band and an offshoot group flared up during a performance at the State Fair.

The disturbance occurred Monday night when the Styx road crew refused to let members of Damn Yankees pay a backstage visit during a Styx concert, said state police Lt. Richard Lynch.

"It was very childish on Styx's part," said Bob Liberman, tour manager for Damn Yankees, which is led by former Styx guitarist Tommy Shaw and performed Tuesday night without incident.

Liberman said the bad blood started when Shaw opted to tour with his new band rather than the reunited Styx.
