WALTZING TO THE TOP

Two-time U.S. Ice Dance Champions Joseph Druar, formerly of Amherst, and Susan Wynne, formerly of Camillus, will waltz on ice tonight in "From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration 1991." The annual holiday telecast, hosted by Walter Cronkite, airs at 8 p.m. on Channel 17 and again at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The 90-minute special, broadcast from the Golden Hall of Vienna's historic Musikverein, salutes the origins of ice dancing in Vienna and the American dance master Jackson Haines. Claudio Abbado conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in the waltzes, polkas and galops of the Strauss family and pays tribute to the Mozart Bicentennial.

Ms. Wynne and Druar, the former Buffalo Skating Club members and 1988 Olympians, are ranked fourth in the world and are the winners of 14 other national and international medals.

A team for 10 years, the skating duo now resides in Boston, where they teach competitive skating.
