KIEL MARTIN, 'HILL STREET BLUES' ACTOR, DIES

Actor Kiel Martin, who played shady detective Johnny "J.D." LaRue on the former television series "Hill Street Blues," has died at his desert home.

Martin, 46, a regular performer on the Emmy-winning series, died Friday of cardiovascular collapse caused by lung cancer, Michael Werk, deputy coroner for Riverside County, reported Monday.

In 1987, Martin played a dead man given a chance to return to life in "Second Chance," a short-lived Fox television series.

Also that year, he co-starred in the NBC-TV movie "Convicted: A Mother's Story" with Ann Jillian, who plays a mother separated from her two children when she is sent to prison.
