CHARGES UNLIKELY IN WOMAN'S DEATH

Charges are unlikely in the death of a Niagara Falls woman hit by a tractor-trailer Saturday night on Niagara Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda police said Monday.

Christine M. Putnam, 18, of 1239 91st Street, Niagara Falls, was killed returning to her car north of Forbes Road after she stopped about 11:30 p.m. to help a stranger whose auto had hit a rain slick and slid into a utility pole.

Police said Miss Putnam died instantly when she was hit by a tractor-trailer driven by Frank Licata, 25, of Buffalo in slippery, rainy conditions. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
