Marine Midland Bank has promoted Thomas J. Pietrykowski to vice president. He joined the bank in 1968 as a programmer trainee. He was elected an assistant vice president and named to his current position of section manager of customer information and electronic access systems in 1981. He lives in West Seneca.

GeoVest Advisors Inc., a money management firm headquartered in the Willowbrook Office Park in Fairport, has named David F. Schneeweiss vice president and manager of its Buffalo office. He previously was employed by Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. Prior to that, Schneeweiss was president and chief executive officer of Bakerman Inc. He is a graduate of Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Business.

Prudential-Bache Securities, an investment banking and brokerage firm, has appointed Christopher B. Shafer vice president of investments in the Buffalo office. Prior to joining Prudential-Bache in December, Shafer worked for Shearson Lehman Hutton for six years. He is a graduate of Bowling Green University and is a resident of Amherst.

Hurwitz & Fine, a local law firm with offices at 1400 Liberty Building and in Niagara Falls, has appointed Daniel R. Archilla and Theresa A. Drew associates, responsible for insurance defense litigation.

Archilla formerly was with the law firm of Sheldon M. Markel & Associates. He is a graduate of the University at Buffalo and its law school.

Ms. Drew previously was an associate with Damon & Morey law firm. She earned a bachelor's degree from Allegheny College and a juris doctorate from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

The Bank Management Institute at the University at Buffalo has named David J. Hinman to its Policy Council. He is vice president and Buffalo area business director for Citibank. He also serves as chairman of the institute's Alumni Advisory Committee.

Pratt & Lambert, 75 Tonawanda St., has promoted Kathleen M. Militello to manager of marketing services for its Specialty Products Group, which encompasses products from Miracle Adhesives Corp., Hybond contact adhesives and the complete line of Fabulon clear wood finishes. Ms. Militello had been product manager for Fabulon and Hybond brands. She holds an MBA from the University at Buffalo.

Tops Markets Inc. has appointed Spence Alfrey director of distribution systems. He had been a consultant for special distribution projects and software development for Tops. He also previously was employed by two Midwest and East Coast supermarket chains. Alfrey is a graduate of the University of Tennessee.

Renold Inc. of Westfield has appointed David Riley director of manufacturing. He had been plant manager for Rexnord, Thomas Coupling. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University. He lives in Harborcreek, Pa.
