COUNCIL WILL STUDY PLAN TO END JOB IN LACKAWANNA

A proposal to abolish the job of Lackawanna city treasurer and transfer the duties to the director of administration and finance will be discussed by the City Council during an informal work session at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Mayor Thomas E. Radich proposed consolidating the posts after the resignation of City Treasurer Kathleen A. Taylor. Mrs. Taylor is moving to Olean because of her husband's job transfer.

Radich has proposed that the treasurer's duties be taken over by the director of administration and finance and that the salary for that post be increased by nearly $10,000 to $42,000 a year. The move would save money and increase efficiency, Radich said.

The plan would require Council approval and will be discussed during a work session scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Council President Edward D. Tokarz said.

That session will follow a 6 p.m. discussion of the electrical and plumbing ordinances and a 6:45 p.m. session concerning tree trimming and removal, Tokarz said. The Council will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.
