New York State corrections officers witness many things in prison that would make your stomach turn and your skin crawl.
It sickens us to witness the layoff of corrections officers at the same time the state sees fit to provide millions of dollars each fiscal year for postage stamps (five stamps per inmate per week), a full set of parole clothes, parole pocket money ($40) and a bus or train ticket to get home.
This is not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars spent to provide education, medication and rehabilitation to the inmates in state correctional facilities.
Millions of dollars and thousands of officers' jobs could be saved if the incarcerated were made to pay a lot more for their crime other than with time.
Whoever said crime doesn't pay never witnessed how the state treats the prisoners behind the walls.
