World Healing Day will be observed with a prayer service from 7 to 8 a.m. Monday in First Unitarian Universalist Church, 639 Main St.
Dec. 31 was designated as World Healing Day five years ago, bringing millions of people together throughout the world each year to pray for peace at exactly noon Greenwich Mean Time -- or 7 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Local organizers said similar prayers would be recited simultaneously in places of worship, homes, convention centers and stadiums. Those unable to attend the service were urged to "join in thought at precisely 7 to 8 a.m. Dec. 31."
