FARMERS GET LESS FOR MILK, BUT RETAIL PRICES STAY HIGH

Consumers are not seeing lower milk prices even though the price paid to dairy farmers for milk fell by 42 cents per gallon this year, state Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard McGuire said Wednesday.

McGuire said the difference was especially great in the New York City area, where supermarket prices for milk were unchanged. Upstate, retail milk prices fell an average of 15 cents a gallon, McGuire said.
