Administrators of Pembroke Central School are turning to area residents to share their knowledge and experience with students. High School Principal Robert D'Angelo wants to form a speakers' bureau consisting of area residents who from time to time would address students.
Local residents can enhance many classroom subjects, D'Angelo said. For example: "A social studies class could learn a lot about the Vietnam conflict from lectures and traditional classroom tools, but a classroom visit from a Vietnam veteran speaking on his own impressions could make that period of American history come to life."
D'Angelo invited residents with special knowledge about a broad range of topics to describe them in letters to the Speakers Bureau, Pembroke Central School, Corfu 14036. The list will be compiled before spring and circulated to teachers.
