A Corfu reader writes, "We recently moved into an older farm home, and found some old picture frames. They seem to be wood with a gold finish. Is there anything I can do to restore their natural look?"
The old frames might be gilded or painted with gold paint or they might be gold leaf. The latter never tarnishes. To check, apply a little dry cleaning fluid to an inconspicuous place. Pat gently and if there is no adverse reaction for a day or two, use this.
If the frames have been painted, the only way to refurbish them is to paint them.
