The Town of Tonawanda's new aquatic and fitness center will open Jan. 13.
Dignitaries will cut the ribbon on the center, at 1 Pool Plaza, adjacent to Sheridan Plaza, at 1 p.m. on opening day.
The Town Board, board of directors of the World University Games-Buffalo '93 and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation are sponsoring the opening and tours of the facility.
Free tours will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Jan. 2. Tours also are planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 3 and 4 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 5.
The facility, at Sheridan Plaza off Delaware Road, will be the site of the 1993 World University Games polo competition. It includes a 50-meter pool, kiddie pool, fitness equipment, whirlpool, sauna and a steam room.
