ELEANOR J. SCHWENDLER, NEWS PAYROLL CLERK

A Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor J. Schwendler, a retired payroll clerk at The Buffalo Evening News, will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Amelia's Catholic Church, 2999 Eggert Road, Town of Tonawanda.

Mrs. Schwendler, 86, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 1990).

Born and raised in Buffalo, she attended St. Joseph's School and went to work for The News in 1922, leaving seven years later after she married Aloysius Schwendler.

After her husband died and her daughter, Mary, was born in 1931, Mrs. Schwendler returned to the newspaper's payroll department in 1933, where she worked for the next 33 years until her retirement.

She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Ladies of Charity of Annunciation Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Maggiotto of the Town of Tonawanda; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
