MAN WANTED IN SHOOTING SURRENDERS

A man wanted in connection with a shooting on Whitney Place turned himself over to police Sunday night. Henry Rodriguez, 17, of 254 Whitney Place was charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Felix DeLeon, the victim, was in Erie County Medical Center in serious condition after undergoing surgery Saturday night. Officer Roberto Rodriguez, who is unrelated to the suspect, said Rodriguez, a native of the Dominican Republic, surrendered after he learned that police were seeking him.

The suspect led police to where he said he threw the weapon used in the attack, but it was not recovered. Police believe the weapon used was a revolver. Officer Rodriguez said the attack, which occurred at about 6 p.m. Saturday near DeLeon's Whitney Place home, apparently stemmed from an argument over stereo equipment. Homicide Detective Carl Lipinczyk assisted in the investigation.
