A Lancaster woman has been charged with cruelty to animals after she allegedly abandoned 40 dogs in a Franklinville mobile home described as a puppy mill by SPCA officials.
Donna Green, 49, surrendered Friday to Franklinville Town Justice Kaye Hall. She is scheduled to reappear before Hall on Jan. 7. She faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Ten dogs were found dead in the mobile home and one more died after being confiscated and taken to an SPCA shelter in Olean, authorities said.
Cattaraugus County SPCA officials said they discovered the dogs Dec. 14 in the mobile home at 4031 Wenrick Hill Road after being alerted by Harry Alexander, the woman's landlord.
The dogs are being cared for at the SPCA shelter on Route 16.
