SISTER MARY THEODORE WEPPNER, EDUCATOR

Services for Sister Mary Theodore Weppner, 94, a longtime faculty member at D'Youville College, were held Thursday and Friday in Yardley, Pa.

Sister Mary Theodore died Tuesday (Dec. 18, 1990) in an infirmary in Yardley.

Born Grace A. Weppner, Sister Mary Theodore received her early education at Holy Angels School and Holy Angels Academy in Buffalo, before receiving a bachelor's degree from D'Youville and a Ph.D. in education at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Before entering the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heartin 1930, she taught for 10 years at Hutchinson Public High School. After entering the Grey Nuns, she served as teacher and principal in the congregation's schools in Buffalo, Ogdensburg and Melrose Park, Pa.

During her almost 30-year career at D'Youville, she was an education professor, chairman of the Education Department and assistant director of education. The first director of the Cadet Program at D'Youville, she later initiated the Bishop's Committee, an early lay-leadership program to develop Catholic family life.

Sister Mary Theodore retired in 1972 to Yardley, where she served as an administrative secretary.

Survivors include a sister, Mildred Salter of Eggertsville.
