The Niagara Frontier Builders' Association awarded scholarships to local students enrolled in the Erie Community College Civil Engineering/Construction Technologies program in a special assembly at the ECC North Campus this week.
"We at Erie Community College consider ourselves fortunate to have the support of an organization such as the NFBA," said Joe Cristina, the program's unit coordinator.
"They have provided scholarships for deserving construction technology students for over 20 years," he added. "It is our shared belief that these young people will provide the building industry with talent and experience in the years to come."
NFBA Executive Vice President Joe McIvor said the builders' association is proud to continue its commitment to the scholarship program.
"The future of our industry and our community rests with our young people," he said. "Our dedication to them is ongoing."
The scholarships were based on criteria set by the NFBA scholarship committee and were chosen from a group of students selected by the college.
"The annual scholarship award is sponsored by the NFBA's public relations committee and is enhanced by funds from the National Association of Home Builders," said committee chairman Eugene Jason at the awards presentation. This year the association began a new tradition by providing a construction-related book for the library.
