GBAR COLLECTS KNIT ITEMS FOR SALVATION ARMY

For the fifth consecutive year, members of the Greater Buffalo Association of Realtors sponsored its "Warm Hands Helping Hands" program to aid Buffalo's homeless and needy families.

In 1986, the GBAR was designated as an official sponsor for this yearly holiday drive by the Salvation Army in order to help needy local families experience some of the joys of the Holiday Season.

Chair-persons for this year's event were Barb Maiorana, Ann Rino, and Darrel Farrel who where responsible for coordinating the efforts of over 100 real estate offices who participated in this year's holiday drive.

According to Salvation Army coordinator, Emma Galuzzi, "Knit items are very much needed, an area that had been deficient before the realtor community offered support. In the past many of our families would be able to receive only one knit item, because we didn't have enough for every member of the family. We have counted on the realtor support so that each family member can have the necessary mittens, hats, scarves and gloves to see them through a Buffalo winter."

GBAR member companies participated by having collection points in their offices to accept donations from both real estate sales agents and from the public.

On December 14, the GBAR hosted a Holiday Open House at their association headquarters at 100 Sylvan Parkway, Amherst, where members were treated to "holiday cheer" when they dropped off their clothing donations.

"Each year this project has grown through both community and member support, stated Mary Ann Kustich, GBAR president. It's rewarding to see that our community can contribute to this worthwhile community need."
