Anthony J. Rendina was elected Friday to a one-year term as chairman of the Niagara Falls City Council.
The vote was 5-2, with Councilman Jacob A. Palillo and Councilwoman Barbara A. Geracitano casting the opposing votes.
Rendina replaces Henry J. Buchalski, whose term expires Dec. 31.
The Council tried twice Monday to fill the post, but the best it could do was register three votes for Rendina and two for both Mrs. Geracitano and Council Anthony F. Quaranto. At least four votes were needed.
