WEAPONS CACHE UNCOVERED, FALLS TAXI DRIVER CHARGED

A cab driver was in Niagara County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $10,000 bail after police said they found an arsenal of weapons in his Fifth Street apartment.

Steven Hughes, 28, of 514 Fifth was charged with five counts of criminal possession of weapons. Members of the Niagara County Drug Task Force said they stopped Hughes' cab on Fourth Street late Wednesday night and found a weapon that was adaptable as a semiautomatic machine gun.

Police said they searched his house and found five other assault-type weapons and grenades, literature and videocassettes on how to manufacture automatic weapons.
