The children of Olmsted School 56 and the Olmsted branches on West Avenue and Lincoln Parkway are starting Christmas vacation with the feeling that they have helped other people.
The 19 upper-grade home rooms at 716 West Delavan Ave. school collected gifts for each member of 19 families affiliated with a charitable agency.
Dr. Judith Ricca, the principal, said that each year a different charity provides the names of clients interested in receiving a holiday collection.
Four or five members of each homeroom assisted a teacher or parent in the deliveries, which included a turkey for each family. None of the recipient families has children in the school.
The Olmsted primary graders on Lincoln Avenue collected for Toys for Tots, while middle graders at 440 West donated food to a North
Buffalo food drive.
