Undefeated LaSalle, rated No. 1 in The Buffalo News Large Schools poll, seeks its third tournament title Saturday night when the Explorers play in the PAl/Festival of Lights championship game at LaSalle. The Explorers (7-0), meet the winner of tonight's Hutch-Tech vs. Niagara Falls game at 8 p. m. Saturday.
LaSalle, who won Albany's Corning Cup and the NFL Kickoff Invitational titles, raced to a 22-9 first-quarter lead to defeat Bennett, 82-60, Thursday night. Modie Cox led LaSalle with 22 points, 10 assists and seven steals which gives him 196 career steals, breaking Michael Freeney's record of 189 set in 1978-81.
ECIC II: Casey Filarecki's 17 points and 14 rebounds led Clarence (3-2, 2-1) to a 55-39 victory over Williamsville East.
Jason Tracey added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
NFL KICKOFF INVITATIONAL: Junior Matt Robinson had 18 points, including four of four three-pointers, to lead Lew-Port to a 78-31 rout of Beamsville, Ont.
IAC: Jerry Heider's 35 points led St. Mary's of the Deaf to a 74-62 win over Calasanctius. Thorstine Schuk had 20 for Calasanctius (0-3). St. Mary's is 3-3, 2-1.
NON-LEAGUE: Canisius got off to a fast start, leading 44-22, at halftime and went on 83-66 victory over East Aurora. Gregg Shea had 22 points and six rebounds for the Crusaders (5-0, 1-0).
