FREDONIA PLANS TO MAKE PART OF CANADAWAY 2-WAY

In the last meeting of the year, the Village Board declared its intent to permit two-way traffic on the easterly 210 feet of Canadaway Street.

A public hearing on the change was set for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14.

Property owners in the area had asked for the change in order to facilitate the unloading of trucks and end the congestion on Water Street near the Canadaway Street
intersection.

In other business, the board appointed John T. Dugan, a senior at Fredonia State College, as an unpaid intern during the spring semester.

In other matters, the board voted to have Bells Builders install a center rail on the Church Street steps for less than $110.

Village officials want to meet with Pomfret officials to discuss the contracts for the Berry Road and Chestnut Street water districts. The current contracts call for Berry Road residents to be charged 175 percent of the village rate and the Chestnut Street residents to be charged twice the village rate.

Finally, village officials will continue to look into increasing the income limits for senior citizen tax property relief.

The current limit is $6,000. Officials want to see what the impact would be on other residents if the limit were
increased to $9,500.
