Police searched the Fillmore-Kensington area this morning for a man who escaped while being handcuffed by a sheriff's deputy.
Assistant Chief John Abraham of the sheriff's Family Court Warrant Enforcement Unit said the man was being served with a Family Court warrant by a unit officer.
The suspect, a 36-year-old man with a Burgard Place address, ran from a company where he works on Appenheimer Avenue near Fillmore Avenue about 10:45 a.m., police said.
The deputy was serving a summons for the suspect to appear in court on charges he did not make his family-support payments, Abraham said. The suspect also was wanted for allegedly violating a court order of protection, Abraham said. The assistant chief said escape charges would be filed against the suspect when he is captured.
