There is no good reason for American troops to die in the Arabian desert. I hope that the Congress will have the courage to reconvene itself and examine this issue publicly.
We're deeply in debt now because we believed that we needed to spend trillions on a military to protect us from the Communists. That belief was based on very bad intelligence, secret errors, and bad decisions, scantily debated. That's OK. It's only money. Right now, we have human life in the balance. That's not OK.
Sanctions are bound to kill the weakest, although Iraq, being self-sufficient in food, will not starve. We'll kill more, if shooting starts.
So, while Iraq's war machine gets rusty and it runs out of spare parts, let's arm ourselves with the moral courage to face this issue head-on -- in Congress.
