Willie Cauley scored 13 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday night to lead Niagara Falls to a 57-45 victory over Gov. Simcoe (Ont.) and third place in the Niagara Frontier League's Kickoff Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Cauley, a 6-foot-6 senior, also had 13 rebounds and four steals for the Power Cats (5-1 overall, 3-1 in the tourney).
Niagara Falls led, 22-21, at the half and 40-36 after three quarters, then outscored the visitors, 17-9, in the fourth period.
Kenmore East (4-3) rallied from a 36-28 halftime deficit to defeat A.N. Meyer (Ont.), 62-55.
Mike O'Bryan scored six of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs converted 15 of 19 free throws over that span. Greg Newton had 18 and his brother, Tom, 15 for A.N. Meyer.
North Tonawanda thwarted Lockport's fourth-quarter rally to outlast the Lions, 75-61. Jason Nepokroeff led the Lumberjacks with 19 points, while Trevor Zayatz scored six of his 14 in the fourth quarter for NT. Darren Bracken had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions.
Mike Van Dewater's 21 points and seven assists and Mike Harvey's 10 rebounds led Tonawanda (3-2) to a 68-52 win over Grantham (Ont.).
Chris Tassy's basket with 30 seconds left gave Grand Island (4-3) a 62-59 win over Kenmore West. Anthony Scott had 17 points and 14 rebounds, Grant Koslowski 15 assists for the Vikings.
Niagara-Wheatfield (3-2) won its second tournament game, routing St. Catharines, 57-40. Tim Smith, Steve DeVantier, Rich Condino and Lance Printup each had nine points for the Falcons.
Jeff Muszynski sank one free throw and Joe Gannon added two in the final 49 seconds to give Timon (5-1) a 63-60 win over Williamsville South. Muszynski, a 6-3 sophomore, had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Steve Kull totaled 15 points and Gannon 13 for the Tigers. Mike Mitchel had 22 and Andre Graves 19 for the Billies.
Dean Edwards, a 6-7 senior, scored 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had six assists to lead Olean (4-0) to a 69-43 win over Lafayette.
Trailing by four at halftime, Cleveland Hill outscored City Honors, 42-24, in the second half en route to a 67-52 victory. Quincey Morris scored 17 of his 26 and Tyrone Magby had 12 of his 24 in the second half to lead the Eagles (2-3). Eric Broska had 12 rebounds for Cleveland Hill, while Andrew Mancuso scored 23 points for City Honors.
