CAB DRIVER FACES WEAPONS COUNTS

Police said they seized weapons and ammunition while arresting a cab driver late Wednesday evening.

Steven Hughes, 28, of 514 Fifth St. was held without bail on five counts of criminal possession of weapons and was scheduled for City Court arraignment today.

Members of the Niagara County Drug Task Force said they stopped a cab Hughes was operating on Fourth Street about 10:30 p.m. and seized from the seat of the vehicle a weapon police said was adaptable as a machine gun.

They obtained a search warrant for his home and rounded up four other weapons, three bomb shells, a grenade with a live fuse, a military rifle and videocassettes along with other property. The investigation is continuing. Property was taken to the Public Safety Building, where the cab driver was booked.
