2 DOZEN DEAD BABY MICE FOUND IN BOX IN EMPTY LOT

Two-dozen dead baby mice that were probably bound for a laboratory or to feed pets were found today in a vacant lot on Fillmore Avenue, said the city superintendent of animal and rodent control.

After receiving a tip from an anonymous resident, an animal control officer investigated the scene at 327 Fillmore and discovered the box, which contained about 25 mice, said Fabian Tryjankowski, the superintendent. He said the mice, which had been packed in a cardboard box filled with sawdust, probably froze to death. It was unclear where the box, found about 10 a.m., originated.
