U.S. EMPLOYEE HELD IN PASSPORT SCAM

A State Department employee has been arrested and charged with helping violent drug dealers obtain illegal passports, authorities say.

Kenneth R. Weatherspoon, who worked at the main passport office in Rockefeller Center, allegedly helped dealers such as Delroy "Uzi" Edwards and members of the "Gulleymen" gang get passports, authorities said Tuesday.

Drug dealers, illegal aliens and others who wanted passports allegedly paid $2,500 to a middleman who assisted them in getting the documents through Weatherspoon, prosecutors said.
