HOLIDAY CREDIT FRAUD

Credit card fraud cost card issuers $220 million in 1989, and is expected to cost another bundle during this holiday shopping season, says the American Bankers Association.

To protect yourself, it suggests you carry only the cards you need for shopping; make sure sales clerks fill in slips correctly and legibly, and destroy carbons. Also, avoid giving credit card numbers over the telephone to unknown callers who say they are taking surveys or verifying accounts.
