SAMUEL P. BATTAGLIA, PROFESSIONAL VIOLINIST

A Mass of Christian Burial for Samuel P. Battaglia, 94, of Seventh Street, a retired professional violinist and former musicians union treasurer, will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.

Battaglia died Saturday (Dec. 15, 1990) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.

He was born in Niagara Falls. He taught violin and during the days of silent movies played violin at the former Strand Theater.

He was a charter member and treasurer of Local 106, American Federation of Musicians. He also was active in real estate and developed a number of rental properties.

He was a member of the Niagara Falls Sertoma Club; Council 247, Knights of Columbus; St. Joseph's Church and its Holy Name Society, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

His wife, Josephine D'Anna Battaglia, died in 1958.

Surviving are a son, Frederick S. Sr., and a daughter, Marianne; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
