WHAT A RECORD! -- Du Pont's Yerkes Plant at Sheridan Drive and River Road in the Town of Tonawanda has accumulated 15 million man hours of work without a lost-time injury, according to Robert P. Hughes Jr., plant manager.

He said the plant, which employs 475, has worked for the last 15 and a half years with no injuries that have resulted in an employee losing time from work. "This safety record ranks the Yerkes Plant in the Number 10 position of the 140 DuPont locations worldwide for safety performance," he said. The plant has operated since 1921. It manufactures Tedlar Polyvinyl Fluoride Film and Corian solid building products. . . .

MORE BIG BUCKS -- E. Alfred Osborne, author, humorist and public relations director for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation operations here, has sent word that on Dec. 3, the company presented a check for $325,000-plus to Millard Fillmore Hospital.

"This is as a result of the hospital's replacing inefficient lamps and ballasts throughout the hospital," he said. Osborne also noted that "the relighting will also cut the hospital's electric bill substantially." He said the check was the largest refund presented in the 37 counties served by the company. . . .
