ACID SPILL IS CONTAINED AT N. TONAWANDA FACTORY

Between 50 and 100 gallons of sulfuric and chromic acid spilled inside a North Tonawanda manufacturing plant this morning, but the spill was cleaned up without major incident, North Tonawanda fire officials said.

Plant personnel at Applied Design Co., 908 Niagara Falls Blvd., neutralized and contained the acid with soda ash, fire officials said.

North Tonawanda firefighters and representatives from the Niagara County Health Department and the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the scene, following the report of the spill at 6:41 a.m.
