Josie Cordero of the Amherst Swim Club won the 100-meter freestyle Sunday night, highlighting local performances in the New York State Team Swimming Championships at the University at Buffalo's Alumni Arena natatorium.
Cordero posted a time of 52.79 seconds in the girls senior event, good enough for her to qualify for the Junior National meet that will be held at UB in March. She finished second in the 200 butterfly, and also was second in the 500 freestyle Saturday night.
The Southtowns Aquatic Racers of Hamburg finished the meet second in the team standings with 2,255 1/2 points, 125 behind the Long Island Aquatics Club.
Among STAR individuals, Jason Craft was second in the boys 10-under 100 breaststroke; Derek Smith was second in the same event for 11-12-year-olds; Lisa Bartlett was second in the girls 13-14 100 free; and Duane Rinkus was second in the boys 13-14 200 butterfly.
The Elma-Aurora Swim Team got seconds from Greg Banas (boys 11-12 100 back) and Carol Girvin (girls 13-14 200 breast). Amherst's Sara Dokken was third in the girls senior 200 breast.
