Eight area men were arrested Sunday on gambling charges, breaking up what state troopers said was a $1 million gambling operation.
The three-month investigation involved the State Police, the FBI, city police, Town of Ellicott police and the State Liquor Authority.
All the betting was on football games.
Search warrants were issued, and the eight were arrested on charges ranging from first-degree promotion of gambling to possession of gambling records.
Charged are Samuel Digirolamo, 64, and his son, Michael, 25, both of 64 Seibert St.; David Frankensen, 46, of Fairmont Avenue; Joseph Raffa, 60, of Lindquist Drive, Falconer; Ray Robertson, 50, of Homestead Street, Falconer; Phillip Ricotta, 30, of Loss Mills Road; Gilbert Curcio, 57, of Duquesne Street, Celoron, and Lawrence Gregory, 67, of Route 394, Town of Poland.
All were released without bail.
Police also seized gambling records. The eight will appear in court later.
