Those whose lives have been affected by drunken drivers can help deter others convicted of alcohol-related driving offenses.
Maria Martens, the Stop DWI coordinator for Erie County, says her office is looking for victims of drunken drivers who would be willing to relate their tragedies to others.
"We are seeking volunteers who have been tragically affected by drunk driving -- people who have been injured, lost a loved one, or offenders willing to tell their story," Ms. Martens said.
The idea, she said, is to follow up on new state legislation that gives judges the option of sentencing those convicted of drunken driving to listen to a panel of speakers as part of their sentence.
