About 50 persons attended a candlelight vigil Friday at Martin Luther School in Eggertsville to remember victims of alcohol-related accidents and promote drivers' sobriety.

The program, sponsored by a new Erie County branch of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, consisted of poems, songs and lighting of candles.

"At a time of year that is festive for most people, this was a time for those who do not feel festive, because they have lost a loved one or friend to drunken driving," said Lynn J. Umlauf, coordinator for the group, which is seeking chartered chapter status within the national organization.

The group is encouraging drivers to tie a red ribbon to their car door handles as a pledge to avoid drinking and driving this holiday season, Ms. Umlauf said.
