Kirk Billingslea, 34, of 134 Stanton St. faces numerous charges after, police said, he and another man broke a window Friday in a downtown jewelry store, grabbed about $1,000 worth of merchandise and ran.
Billingslea was captured by police after a chase that involved a Metro bus driver and other motorists. The other man got away, police said.
Police said the men used a chunk of metal to break the window at Howard Jewelers, 535 Main St. near Huron, about 9:40 a.m.
The store's manager followed them and grabbed onto their getaway car as they drove off, but had to let go after some distance, police said. He was not injured.
A bus driver and other motorists, meanwhile, tried to box in the car, reported stolen Wednesday at Michigan Avenue and Broadway. The thieves abandoned the car in the 100 block of Spring Street and ran.
Billingslea was arrested in a field behind the Twin Bakery, 647 Eagle St., police said. He was charged with burglary, grand larceny, possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
