Homicide detectives late Friday tentatively identified a Fox Street homicide victim as Jamil Hicks, 25.
The young man, who was found dead in his apartment at 208 Fox late Friday morning, was stabbed several times in the upper body, Homicide Chief Richard T. Donovan said. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Detectives believe the victim had been dead for at least a day before his body was discovered by a neighbor, at about 11 a.m. Friday. He was last seen alive several days ago, Donovan said.
Some physical evidence, including a knife, was taken from the scene, but the homicide chief said there was no indication that it was the weapon used in the assault. Detectives were trying to determine Friday whether anything was taken from the house.
Neighbors said the victim had lived in the rear apartment for only about two months.
The house is located on Fox between Broadway and Genesee Street on the city's East Side.
