New York State, the federal government and some local small cities and townships have all got something in common -- mutual togetherness in that they spend more than they take in.
This may be human folly, but unfortunately the debt has to be paid some time. So instead of belt-tightening, they opt to increase taxes as the easy way out.
Conspicuous for his ability to balance the budget, Mayor Griffin should be applauded for holding the line on spending all through his long tenure of office. He has been continually criticized as insensitive by organizations and boards with insatiable demands for additional funds. Thank God for his prudence in presenting well-balanced budgets.
