JAIL PLAQUE HONORS REVILLE FOR INMATE TUTORING PROJECT

Eugene T. Reville, the late superintendent widely credited with desegregating Buffalo's schools, was honored in a ceremony this morning for starting a tutoring program for Erie County Holding Center inmates 10 years ago.

A plaque dedicated to Reville, who died in March after a traffic accident in Phoenix, Ariz., was placed on the second floor of the Holding Center where the jail library, recreation center and classroom are located.

Erie County Sheriff's Department officials said Reville was instrumental in setting up an educational program for inmates, many of whom are illiterate.
