FASHION MODEL TO SPEAK AT INSTITUTE FUND-RAISER

International fashion model Beverly Johnson will be the keynote speaker at a fund-raiser for the St. Augustine's Center Afrikan Family Institute at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Kensington Place Restaurant.

Ms. Johnson will visit her hometown for three days to promote the release of the "Beverly Johnson Doll" in Western New York. The 11 1/2 -inch-tall doll is part of the "Real Model Collection" series being produced by Match Box Toys.

Ms. Johnson, who has appeared on television, is the author of two books, including her latest release, "You Can Do Something About AIDS." She was the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine and has appeared on the cover of more than 500
magazines.

The fund-raiser will support the Afrikan Child and Family Institute at 351 Grider St. The private school was founded five years ago to provide culturally enriched educational experiences for African-American children.

Ms. Johnson also will tour the school Thursday.
