A letter published in the Dec. 4 edition of The News stated that "only professionals should own guns."
I recall when some Buffalo policemen fired numerous rounds at a pack of stray dogs that had been causing trouble. These officers succeeded only in putting holes in people's garages, wounding one of themselves, and endangering others. If this is an example of professionals with guns, I'll take my chances with armed private citizens.
The writer also fails to mention that that nasty Second Amendment, stating "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed," is still a part of our Constitution. Our forefathers realized that too much power corrupts, and a government that only allows police and soldiers possession of guns is well on its way to corruption.
