MOVE FROM DISTRICT PROMPTS LEGISLATOR'S RESIGNATION

Cattaraugus County Legislator Daniel McCarthy, D-Olean, Wednesday submitted his resignation effective Dec. 31 because he is moving from his legislative district.

He has taken a job as high school principal in Franklinville and plans to move there with his family.

Chairman Bruce J. Moody, D-Hinsdale, responded, "We have sworn at you, hated you and loved you and now we will miss you."

After seven years, McCarthy said he's made some friends, "on both sides of the aisle trying to do what's best for the county." He offered to serve on committees or wherever needed.

Olean City Democratic Chairwoman Mary Bernstein said nearly 20 persons are being interviewed for the appointment to replace McCarthy through Dec. 31, 1991.

She expects the committee will make a recommendation early next month and legislators could vote the appointment Jan. 23.
