Kenyon Edwards' bucket broke a 61-61 tie with four minutes to play, giving Grover Cleveland its first lead, and the Presidents went on Wednesday night to defeat Turner/Carroll, 72-69, in the first round of the Al Pastor Memorial Basketball Tournament at Buffalo State College.
St. Francis walloped Burgard, 102-82, in the other first-round game.
Grover, which trailed by six at halftime, came alive in the fourth period when Shawn Ashford scored eight of his 14 points and Kenny Robinson, who led all scorers with 25, cashed four free throws down the stretch to ice the victory.
Kevin Glover scored 19 points and Damone James 16 for T/C.
Nick Smith poured in 28 points, John Dietrick 18, Andy Degnan 16 and Chris Pasternak 15 to power St. Francis past Burgard. Renbane Tidwell tallied 26 and Rodrick Heard 22 for Burgard.

Bob Fitzgibbons poured in 27 points as Nichols School overwhelmed Lockport, 98-57, to move into the semifinal round along with Governor Simcoe (Ont.), LaSalle and Niagara Falls.
Kori Brown and Anthony Habib each added 16 points for Nichols (2-0), which raced to a 29-10 first-quarter lead and coasted. Greg Fluellen's 17 points were high for Lockport (1-1). Nichols will host Simcoe in one of Friday's semifinals. . . . Brent Beamer's 23 points led Simcoe (2-0) to a 69-49 pasting of Kenmore East.
