For the second straight week, Buffalo Bills defensive end Bruce Smith was named AFC defensive player of the week Tuesday for his four-sack, deflected-pass performance in the 31-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts Sunday.
It was the seventh time in 14 weeks that Smith had multiple sacks, putting him in the lead among NFL pass rushers with 19. That is only three off the league record set by the Jets' Mark Gastineau.
The Bills are leaders in two other departments:
Quarterback Jim Kelly in passing ratings with 100.3 points and running back Thurman Thomas in total yards from scrimmage with 1,499.
Buffalo continues to lead in scoring with 373 points (Philadelphia is second with 325).
In the AFC, Andre Reed is the top receiver with 63 catches.
Thomas is in a four-way tie for first in points among non-kickers with 66, while Scott Norwood is second among kickers in point production with 97.
