Buffalo General Hospital, which is nearing the completion of a $7 million renovation and expansion project at the Deaconess Center, held opening ceremonies this morning in the medical building at 1001 Humboldt Parkway.

The former Deaconess Hospital of Buffalo merged with Buffalo General in 1979 and was converted into a skilled nursing facility with 162 beds in July 1985. Within the last 15 months, the center has added 38 geriatric beds and plans are to add two 21-bed units for pediatric and trauma patients. Dr. Mary Jane Koran, director of the state Health Department's Bureau of Long-Term Care Services, delivered keynote remarks.
