General Motors Corp. on Tuesday announced formation of a new GM Powertrain Division to coordinate activities of its new Engine Division and the Hydra-matic Division.
The move, said GM President Lloyd Reuss, was designed to consolidate major engine and transmission operations into one operation. The GM Engine Division was formed last year to coordinate engine research and development for all GM car and truck divisions.
The Powertrain Division will be headed by general manager Richard M. Donnelly, a native of Buffalo. A graduate of Hutchinson Central Technical High School, he joined GM at the Buffalo axle plant on East Delavan Avenue in 1961 and rose through GM's manufacturing and product planning operations to become general manager of the Engine Division.
